Volunteer Role Profile

Your everyday interest can make a big difference. If you love doing it, someone else might love learning it.

Purpose of the Role:

To help adults with learning disabilities live fulfilling lives by sharing your time and talents. Whether it’s knitting, crafting, music, photography, writing, cooking, baking or simply having a good conversation, your interest can bring joy, confidence and creativity to our service users.

What skills could you share?

You might not think of these as volunteering skills – but they are!

Creative Arts: Painting, drawing, knitting, sewing, card-making, drama.

Music and movement: singing, playing an instrument, supporting music, dance or movement activities.

Practical skills: Preparing simple meals, baking or cooking.

Digital skills: basic computer skills from hobbies, work or everyday life.

Social connections: Conversations, listening, storytelling, photography, writing

Group or individual activities: anything that sparks joy and confidence!

Key responsibilities

Share your hobbies or skills in a way that engages and inspires others.
Offer companionship, encouragement, and a listening ear.
Help create a safe, positive, and welcoming space.
Support staff with practical tasks during activities if needed.

Skills and Qualities

Passion for sharing what you enjoy – no formal experience required.
Friendly, patient, and approachable.
Respectful and inclusive attitude
Good communication skills and willingness to listen

Time commitment

Flexible – even an hour can make a difference. We’ll work with you to find a pattern that suits your availability.

Location: Downpatrick

Training & Support:

Full induction provided, including Safeguarding and disability awareness, Mental Capacity Act, Lone Working, and UK GDPR & Data Protection, plus ongoing support. Role-specific training will be provided to ensure volunteers feel confident and competent.
