The Sir Samuel Kelly is a historic lifeboat at the heart of an ambitious heritage project, preserving an important maritime legacy while developing engaging visitor experiences, including guided tours and live interpretation. Like many volunteer-led organisations, we are currently facing a significant shortage of volunteers. To continue operating and growing the project, we urgently need reliable and committed people to get involved.

The Opportunity

We are looking for committed, reliable volunteers. This is a hands-on opportunity to be part of something unique — preserving an irreplaceable piece of local and national heritage.

You do not need previous maritime or heritage experience. What matters most is your willingness to contribute and be part of a team.

Volunteer Roles Available

We are currently recruiting for:

Tour Guides / Visitor Experience

Welcoming visitors and delivering guided tours
Supporting storytelling and interpretation (training provided)
Helping create a positive visitor experience

We are looking for people who are:

Reliable and able to commit to agreed times
Friendly and approachable
Interested in heritage, storytelling, or community work
Willing to learn and work as part of a team

Important Note

We want to be clear: we are currently operating with a reduced volunteer team, and additional support is essential to sustain and grow the project.

New volunteers will play a direct and meaningful role in ensuring the future of the Sir Samuel Kelly.
