Malawi Liaison & Grant Compliance Officer

Hours:

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm (or equivalent, with evening work required on a regular basis)

Location:

Remote/home-based, with regular meetings in Belfast

Responsible to:

Vice President of International Development / UK & Ireland Director

Permanent role

Salary:

£29,500 - £33,300 (dependent on qualifications and experience)

About Children of the Nations:

Children of the Nations (COTN) is a Christian non-profit organisation dedicated to providing holistic care for orphaned and destitute children in underprivileged communities. Operating with partners in countries such as Malawi, Sierra Leone, the Dominican Republic, Uganda, and Haiti, COTN aims to empower children to become leaders who transform their nations.

COTN UK & Ireland supports programmes in these regions by facilitating partnerships, grants, and strategic development while engaging the UK and Irish communities to mobilise resources and raise awareness. Their mission is rooted in Christ-centred care, ensuring children receive education, healthcare, and a pathway to self-sustainability.

Purpose of the role:

This pivotal role will support COTN's work in Malawi by facilitating communication between our international team and the senior leadership of COTN Malawi. The post-holder will oversee grant compliance, support strategic programme evaluation, and develop impactful engagement with supporting partners.

Specific responsibilities:

Act as the primary liaison between COTN International Executive Team, Malawi Country Director, and National Board.
Oversee compliance with grant requirements and facilitate resolution of any issues.
Support strategic and annual operational planning processes, including budgets and project proposals.
Facilitate programme evaluation and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) procedures.
Develop and maintain strong partnerships to mobilise resources and raise awareness of COTN Malawi.
Analyse budget performance and financial reports to ensure grant compliance.
Represent COTN Malawi at meetings, strategic planning sessions, and partner engagements.
Collaborate with the UK & Ireland team on fundraising, events, marketing, and volunteer management.
Travel to Malawi as required to build relationships, conduct training, and support programme development.

Person specification:

Essential:

A personal faith in Jesus and alignment with COTN’s vision and mission.
Third-level qualification in a relevant field.
Minimum of two years’ experience in organisational leadership, strategic planning, project management, or programme development.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
Experience with financial reporting and interpreting budgets.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Willingness to travel internationally and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable:

Experience of overseas ministry or work in developing countries.
Knowledge of issues affecting children in Malawi.
Fundraising and public speaking experience.
Bookkeeping skills and experience with monitoring and evaluation.
Full driving licence with access to a car.

Annual leave entitlement is 35 days. This entitlement is inclusive of bank and public holidays. After the completion of five years’ service, holiday entitlement will increase by one day per year up to a maximum of 40 days.
