Are you organised and good communicator, with a day or two a week to spare to help nature? We are looking for a volunteer co-ordinator to work with our Giving Corncrake a Home project.
Giving Corncrake a Home restores habitat for corncrakes on Rathlin Island. We do this by organising volunteering work party once or twice a week from October to the end of February digging nettle roots (called rhizomes) on the mainland, washing them and transporting them to Rathlin to be planted in March on our Rathlin reserves.
Commitment would be one or two days a week for six months from November 2025 to March 2026.
What will you be doing:
The main duties will be to:
- Participate in nettle dig days with volunteers, wash and store nettle rhizomes appropriately.
- Attend events, student open days, fairs and other relevant happenings to recruit volunteers
- Communication tasks to raise awareness of the project (write blogs, newsletters, social media posts) and work with RSPB NI communication team for any other project related needs
- Admin tasks: learn how to use RSPB internal systems especially Assemble, our Volunteer Portal, and Ebis for volunteer expenses, advertise nettle digs opportunities, record volunteers hours, write emails to volunteers to organise the nettle dig days, write risk assessment for each location.
- Help organise and participate in a Corncrake Community event
- Identify large area of nettles and contact landowners/farmer to study feasibility to organise a nettle dig
